The China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the development of Chinese youth in education, science and technology, culture, sports, health, and environmental protection.
In the 14 years since its founding, the China Youth Development Foundation has played an integral role in developing non-profit organizations in China by promoting international exchanges and cooperation.
The China Youth Development Foundation is best known for launching and managing “Project Hope”, a program that helps dropouts in poor regions return to school and complete their elementary education. As of 2002, Project Hope has:
- helped 2.5 million children from poor rural families continue their schooling
- built more than 10,000 primary schools
- sponsored training for 20,000 rural teachers.
The Foundation is also deeply involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in China. It was a key sponsor of the 2003 Rotary Ball, the first high-level charity event to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in the People’s Republic of China.
Serge Dumont is a member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, and also its the first (and only) foreign member.
